Bunker Stadium was named after Jim Bunker, founder of "Light Up Masco," which raised money and resources to erect lights, bleachers, a press box, and a concession stand next to the football field. When the project ran out of money, Bunker took money from his own wallet and donated to the project to help pay for it. The stadium costed about $500,000 in total and took 2 years to construct. When the project was completed in 2006, Bunker did not feel it necessary to be honored for his contributions to the community, but was eventually convinced in 2009 by school committee member Ralph Osgood. The stadium he worked so hard to see built was later named in his honor (Stucka). Jim Bunker was a vocal advocate for putting up lights around the old field. Being a hardworking and determined man, he asked head coach at the time, James Pugh, if he wanted lights. This was a long-time discussion between the athletic department and school committee that never seemed to be resolved. Pugh responded yes and Bunker said "No, do you want them by Thursday" (Pugh). Bunker’s vision for this project was achieved: creating a social hub for students and community members under the Friday night lights.
