Meet The Kindergarten Team

Kindergarten Overview

Welcome to Kindergarten at Mountain Way!  Throughout your child’s Kindergarten year, they will be engaged in learning experiences that will provide a strong foundation for their educational journey.  Our goal is to build a caring classroom community in which social and academic learning are fully integrated throughout the school day and where students are nurtured to become strong and ethical thinkers.

Academically, students participate in lessons involving Language Arts, Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies.  In Language Arts and Reading, we will learn about rhyming, learning letter names and their sounds, along with proper handwriting form.  Students will be writing on a daily basis and will be exposed to a wide range of literature.  Math skills to be covered include 2D/3D shapes, number sense 1-20, data, measurement, and basic addition/subtraction.  The Science and Social Studies curriculum is largely thematic and designed to relate to the world happening around us.  In Science, we focus on such things as weather/climate, plants, animals, the environment, and forces.  Social Studies curriculum includes units on self awareness and family, community, then/now, wants/needs, and valuing all cultures and people.

Social and Emotional Learning play a large role in the development of the whole child in Kindergarten.  We learn to take turns, share, use polite manners, make friends, and how to be kind contributors as part of a group.  Emotionally, students will develop self-confidence and control as we foster independence and internal motivation.

Kindergarten is a magical year of growth and learning.  We are dedicated to making your child’s Kindergarten year a successful one!
