Special Education

Welcome to The Morris Plains Department of Special Services

The Department of Special Services provides all students eligible for Special Education and Related Services with an appropriate program to meet their educational needs. The goal of the department is to provide students with the appropriate supports to meet their educational needs in the least restrictive environment as possible. The spectrum of services available include full inclusion, in-class support, resource replacement, as well as out of district placements.

All grade levels provide an in-class support section, which is co-taught by a special education and general education teacher. This inclusive approach combines the expertise of a content area specialist with a the strategy knowledge base of a special education teacher in an effort to meet the varied learning needs of students.

Related and support services available in the district include Speech and Language, Occupational, and Physical Therapy, as well as Counseling and Behavior Supports. Services are provided based upon individual student needs as identified by the IEP team.
