The 8th grade math intervention classes did a 3D printing geometry project (focused on the surface area and volume of cone, spheres and cylinders). The challenge was the students were working for a toy company and needed to create an ice cream toy and packaging. The students used tinker cad to create an ice cream cone (cone), and 3 types of ice cream (hemispheres, 1/2 a sphere). Students decorated the ice cream and made sure that the ice cream would fit on the cones (same surface area of the circles). Students then chose colors and used measurement to mix the different resin colors for their ice cream. Finally, the students found the total volume and created a cylinder that would hold the cone and all 3 ice creams.
