First, all 4th grade students will visit the Band and the Orchestra classrooms and make a decision between the two using this form
Then students will be given band specific information including the band handbook and the band contract. Here also is a digital version of the band contract (digital)
Next all students will attend an instrument fitting night where they may try all the instruments and will get feedback as to what instrument might be their best selection.
Students then tell Mr. Wilson what instrument they want to play.
Parents then will be invited to attend a new musician meeting to talk about all you need to set your child up for success in band.
After that the students/parents will work on getting the materials that they need to play the instrument they selected.
Then on a set day, students will begin bringing their instruments to school.
Next is the Kick Start that we will host at Dobson High School where we will break out into separate rooms by individual instruments.
Lastly students bring their instruments to class on a regular schedule, and then also should attend the morning sectional for their instrument.

All 6th grade students will meet as a large group and split into three groups. Band, Orchestra, and students that will not be continuing on playing an instrument will then move to General Music. 6th Grade meets all at the same time, so students will get either Band, Orchestra or General Music for the rest of the year during their music time.
