Gossiping is the Virus in the room and will eventually take us all down. In my class, we are a family. In my family, we sit at the dinner table and eat together, chat with one another, and give each other space to be themselves. No judgment.
How to handle Gossiping in the Art Room:
Can I say this to that person out loud?
Yes: Write it down first No: Don't repeat it!
Is it really worth sharing?
Yes: Go to the Source No: Rip it up, throw it away.
Emotions can be contagious. Here are some tips when you are feeling Not So Great:
Know that it's okay to feel exactly what you are feeling
Let Mrs. Pang know you don't feel yourself and might need some time to re-adjust
Make an appointment to see your counselor
Work on an Art & Mindfulness Art Journal Page (see the Art Journal slideshow for specific ideas)
Talk to your friends
Write your feelings down
Use your senses to get grounded (what colors do you see, what sounds do you hear, what scents do you smell, what textures do you feel, can you sense the energy around you?)
Splash some cold water on your hands, wrist, and/or face. Your nervous system might need a reset!
Take a mini nap! You might just be sleepy :)
BE KIND!
BE ENCOURAGING!
MOTIVATE OTHERS!
GET COMFORTABLE WITH BEING UNCOMFORTABLE
HELP KEEP THE ROOM CLEAN
PLEASE BE ON TIME
BE RESPONSIBLE (IF YOU ARE LATE OR ABSENT, MAKE SURE YOU FIND OUT WHAT WE ARE DOING)
DEMONSTRATION STATION-GET CLOSE, PASS ME THE MASHED POTATOES, LET'S BREAK BREAD TOGETHER!
YOU ARE LOVED BY YOUR TEACHER! ONE MORE TIME FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK....
