Students should make sure that they have and can access their College Board accounts as this is how they will access their PSAT scores.

What's the PSAT?

The PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) can be given to 10th- or 11th-grade students. Find out more from College Board here.

Students who take the PSAT/NMSQT in 11th grade may meet requirements to enter the National Merit® Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. Additionally, the PSAT/NMSQTcan connect students to another $300 million in college scholarships for students across all major demographics.

Why take the PSAT?

At Washburn, we believe in creating as many opportunities as possible for our students to own their future. That’s why we offer the PSAT/NMSQT® (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) to our students. Whether they’re thinking about attending a two- or four-year college, going straight into the workforce, or aren’t sure what they want to do after high school, the PSAT/NMSQT can help make the path clearer for students. Results from the PSAT/NMSQT give both students and teachers insights into each student’s academic strengths, along with areas they can work on while still in high school.

This fall the PSAT/NMSQT will be administered in a new digital format that will provide an overall easier testing experience for students. The SAT will follow in spring 2024. 

Students will take the PSAT/NMSQT in October 2023 using their own school-issued device.

Test Administration Logistics

Test Date: October 25, 2023 

Test Start Time: 1st session: 8am   2nd session: 12pm
Students are expected to be in class when they are not testing.

Location: Main Gym

What to Bring: School-Issued Chromebook, sharpened #2 pencils, College Board approved calculator, and an ID.

What to Leave Behind: Phones, Watches, backpacks.

Sophomores and juniors who perform well on the PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT™10, or receive a 3 or higher on two or more AP® Exams this spring will be invited to apply for recognition awards if they:

Attend school in a rural area/small town or

Identify as Black/African American, Latinx/Hispanic, or Indigenous

Have a 3.5 GPA or higher

Students who receive National Recognition Program awards can add them to their college applications as proof of their outstanding academic achievement. Many colleges and scholarship programs specifically want to connect with awardees of our National Recognition Programs through Student Search Service®.
