Students join a Google Classroom and then have access to the online curriculum.
This opportunity is self-driven while providing comprehensive and individualized instruction based on student progress through ACT prep resources. Once the students join the Google Classroom, they will be able to access their free AXIOM account and its curriculum within 24 hours.
If students have any trouble accessing their account, they should contact Ms. Mennitt in the Media Center.
We have the opportunity for 40 students to access in-person tutoring in the months leading up to the April 25 ACT-for-All date. Washburn will host two after-school classes, led by an in-person Axiom Test Prep tutor. See class dates and times below.
As there are only 40 spots available (20 per class), preference will be given to students receiving educational benefits, students recommended by counselors, and students able to commit to regular attendance.
5-Week Course (a): March 13th - April 19th, Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:15-5:15
5-Week Course (b): March 14th - April 20th, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 3:15-5:15
There are limited spots available. Interested students should email Tara Mennitt.
The links below are resources that have been recommended by Washburn staff to prepare students for the ACT test. Both PowerUp Test Prep and LearningExpress Library are free, however, the LearningExpress Library does require students to log in using their Hennepin County Library card number.
Paper copies of Preparing for the ACT Test are usually available in the CCC.
Pro tip from Ms. Mennitt: If you are planning on using an ACT Prep Book, use the "Big Red Book." This is the official ACT prep book and is the only one on the market that uses retired ACT questions. Any book dated 2018 or later will work just fine.
There are 2 practice tests available for each of the 4 multiple choice areas.
The video on the left will show you how to access the testing program and then how to use it. This will allow you to mark questions for review, eliminate answers, and zoom-in and zoom-out.
Part of taking the ACT online (which we will on April 25) is knowing how to use the test program.
Pro Tip from Ms. Mennitt: So much of the ACT is text based, therefore one of the best ways to prepare for it is to read more in the weeks and days leading up to the exam. Think about it, 1- students are practicing a skill they will need to use on the test, 2- they are being exposed to good writing which allow them to see the writing rules they will be assessed on in the English section, and 3- it will directly impact reading comprehension skills needed for the reading and science sections.
Specifically, students are recommended to read long-form articles from magazines like Time, National Geographic, the NY Times Magazine, the Economist, or the Atlantice
