What is The FAFSA?

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the form that students planning to attend college in the current or following school year complete to receive federal student aid or money for college. US citizens, permanent residents, or certain visa holders can apply. Class of 2025, make sure to file your 2025-2026 FAFSA to receive federal financial aid. To file a FAFSA, students and parents are required to report their 2023 income and tax information. 

How do I apply to the FAFSA?

1. Create a Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID)

  • Create an FSA ID for student and one parent/guardian

    • Write this information down! You will need it for every year you apply for financial aid.

2. Gather Materials

   • Student Information Needed

• • • Student Social Security Number

    • I-94/Green Card # (if you have one)                                            

    • If you worked in 2023:  2023 Federal Income Tax Return (Example) and 2023 W2 form (Example)

  • Parent(s) Information Needed (Who Needs to Contribute Information?)

    • Social Security Number (if they have one)

    • Birthdate (month/day/year)

    • Marriage or divorce date (if applicable)

    • Total amount of money in checking, savings and cash

    • If they worked in 2023: 2023 Federal Income Tax Return (Example) and 2023 W2 Form (Example)

3. Apply for the 2025-2026 FAFSA starting December 1st, 2024.
