The goal of physics is to understand how things work and to develop a deeper appreciation for our universe, ranging from the subatomic to the cosmological level. Studying physics strengthens quantitative reasoning and problem-solving skills that are valuable in areas beyond physics. This course is designed to meet the requirements for AP Physics 1 and is also the first year of the IB HL Physics program. If students wish to further their study of physics after completing this course, they may take the IB HL Physics Year 2 course next year. Topics to be studied are kinematics, Newton’s laws of motion, circular motion, gravitation, rotation, momentum, energy, simple harmonic motion, mechanical waves, and fluid dynamics.
