My name is Yara Anderson. I will be your Physics teacher this year.
Physics is one of the science courses offered at Southwest and is taught using a combination of instructional lessons and videos, small group work, demonstrations and experiments, and projects. We offer regular Physics and HL Physics to prepare students for college level science.Â
Physics helps us understand how the universe works, from its structure to how the different components interacts with each other. We will explore complex scientific concepts and make real-world connections to understand its impact of daily life. We will also focus on learning to understand scientific principles and processes, ask questions, present hypotheses, experiment, solve problems and think critically.
Here are some of the concepts and skills you will learn:
the laws and applications of motion, forces, and gravity.
the processes of work and energy and the laws of thermodynamics.
how light and sound waves function in our environment.
principles of electricity and magnetism and how they are applied.
current achievements and innovative ideas in nuclear and modern physics.
use the scientific method to explore physics questions.
think critically about physics design elements and real-world applications.
I look forward to sharing and learning with you this year!
