Q: What are the MPS graduation requirements for Fitness for Life & Health?
A: To meet graduation requirements, students must take a semester of both Fitness for Life & Health. A semester = 2 quarters.
Semester = 0.50 credits
Quarter = .25 credits
Q: How much of a time commitment are the classes?
A: The classes have the same time commitment as an in-person class: about 60 minutes of work 5 days/week. Students can utilize weekends to get 2 of the days of work done but ALL the work cannot be done on the weekends.
Q: What do the classes consist of?
A: Both classes are completely asynchronous meaning there are no required face-to-face meetings and all work is done independently and turned in on our platform.
Health class is independent classwork, papers, projects, etc. broken down into Units.
Fitness for Life requires a certain number of workouts per week (can vary by week) with proof of activity and written journals.
Q: Are the classes available to all students?
A: Yes, all students 9-12th grade are eligible to enroll. Spots are given in order of seniority.
Q: How do I know which sections to register for?
A: Students can register for singular quarters or full semesters of both classes. To register for singular quarters, students would select Part 1 or Part 2 on their enrollment form. To register for a full semester, students would select Full Semester on the enrollment form.
Students who have never taken the class before would register for "Part 1"; students who have completed a quarter of the class already would register for Part 2. BOTH Parts are offered every quarter of the year.
Q: What does Part 1 and Part 2 mean?
A: Part 1 = the first quarter of Health of FFL; Part 2 = the second quarter of Health or FFL.
Q: Why would a student take a only one quarter instead of a semester?
A: Unlike in-person, students do NOT have to take the 2 required quarters in a row. Some students may choose to take one quarter of the class in Q1 and then take a break and pick it back up in Q3, Q4, or Summer to complete the requirement fully.
Q: Why would a student register for "Part 2" only?
A: Students who have previously completed the first required quarter of the class would register for "Part 2" in order to complete the requirement fully.
For example, a student may have completed Health Part 1 in the summer with MPS Online and would then register for "Part 2" now to complete the requirement.
Q: Why is it called "Part" instead of Quarter?
A: MPS Online uses "Part 1" & "Part 2" for Fitness for Life & Health to avoid confusion of quarter numbers since we offer every quarter in every quarter. Essentially, “Part 1” = the first quarter of the class and “Part 2” = the second quarter of the class but since they can be taken in ANY quarter of the school year, we wanted to avoid using the word “quarter” as it does not represent the quarter that you MUST take the class in.
Part 1 = .25 credits; Part 2 = .25 credits; Both Parts = .50 credits (full requirement)
Q: Can I take Health & Fitness at the same time?
A: We recommend that students take one class at a time due to the time commitment; please consult with your counselor if you are hoping to take them simultaneously. If you are a senior who needs them for a graduation requirement and are on a time crunch, you may take them simultaneously.
