Hello

HOME

πŸ˜€ Hi! I'm Greg Kroening.

I am grateful to be a teacher. I'm also a happy dad. I have two sons who have grown tall enough to look me straight in the eye. My older son is in his third year at Marquette studying bioengineering. My younger son has begun his first year at the University of St. Thomas studying exercise science. We enjoy Marvel movies and summers on the lake at the cabin. We have raised a couple of great dogs together too (Chewy and Buddy, rest their furry souls). I hope to have a dog again someday sooner or later.

I like to draw and write in my spare time. Bicycling also makes me happy. πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ

GROWING UP

I was born in Minneapolis, lived the first five years of my life in northeast Minneapolis, and then grew up in New Brighton, MN. I had a favorite teacher in grade school, Sister George. She was my teacher for first grade and third grade. In first grade, I remember her vivid stories loaded with exaggeration. In third grade, I went to a new school and somehow she ended up there too! She gave me the encouragement I needed to enjoy reading.

WORK

Before making elementary teaching my career, I worked in a variety of jobs including ministry, survey work for the Minneapolis sewer department, daycare at a Montessori preschool, and sales at an independent book retailer in Stillwater. My first elementary teaching job was at a private school in Powderhorn Park. I joined Minneapolis Public Schools in the spring of 1996 with fourth graders at Putnam Elementary in northeast Minneapolis. I taught seven years with first graders at Morris Park Elementary School in the southeast corner of the city. The year before I arrived at Burroughs I taught math support at Kenny Elementary just down the road.

I joined Burroughs Community School in 2004. That year and every year since then, the third graders have made each year special.
