Academic Programming

at Edison High School

In partnership with International Baccalaureate (IB), AVID, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis College and Career and Tech Ed Centers of MPS, Edison provides a unique experience that prepares all students for the many opportunities after graduation. This includes preparation for college/trade school coursework, any workplace and life beyond a career.

We know that having many options can be overwhelming. Each student will participate in an extensive Course Choice Process.  We look forward to supporting you in this process.

Edison High School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. In 9th and 10th grade, that means that every Edison student is part of the IB Middle Years Program. In grades 11-12, students have the option to take classes in the IB Diploma Program (DP), as well as several others. Edison is in the process of developing an IB Career Program, to be available in Fall 2024.

The International Baccalaureate Mission

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Grades 9-10:

The IB Middle Years Program is a comprehensive interdisciplinary program for all students in grades 9through 10.  It seeks to develop well-rounded students who are prepared for study in all courses in 11th and 12th grade, including the IB Career-related or Diploma Program.  All students in the Middle Years Program take courses in a variety of subject areas, including World Language.

Concurrent Enrollment

Concurrent Enrollment allows students to take college coursework and receive credit from Edison High School and the corresponding post-secondary institution. Courses are at Edison and taught by Edison teachers. We currently offer a Statistics Course from Minneapolis College and a Writing Course from University of Minnesota. Both are for our 12th grade students.
