Earn the IB Diploma or Medallion
Students can begin taking IB Diploma Program classes as early as 10th grade, but most begin in 11th grade. The IB Coordinator will connect with 10th grade students during Course Choice to explain options for taking advanced classes in 11th and 12th grade, and going for the IB Diploma or Medallion if you choose.

IB Diploma Candidate Requirements
A course in each of the 6 subject areas, tested in their junior/senior years:
Language and Literature (students who take English and Spanish versions of the course are except from the Language Acquisition requirement)
Language Acquisition
Individuals and Societies
Sciences
Mathematics
Arts (an additional math, science or Individuals and Societies maybe substituted for arts)
**3 of the 6 courses need to be Higher Level (HL) and must be taken junior - senior years.
Beyond these 6 subject areas, additional requirements are:
Theory of Knowledge-- class 2nd semester junior year & 1st semester senior year
CAS experiences and project-- completed outside of classes.
Extended Essay--completed outside of classes.
24 points earned in the six subject area exams are required for the IB Diploma. Each exam is worth 1 – 7 points.
Up to 1-3 bonus points can be awarded for the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge
Do not meet any Failing Conditions (below)
A bilingual diploma is awarded to candidates who earn an IB Diploma AND
complete and receive a grade 3 or higher in two language and literature courses (English and Spanish)
OR
gain a grade 3 or higher in studies in language and literature and a grade 3 or higher in an individuals and societies or science subject, completed in a different language
Medallion Candidate Requirements
3+ Diploma Program or Concurrent Enrollment courses in any subject areas at any levels (SL or HL), tested in junior/senior years
Theory of Knowledge (class 2nd semester junior year & 1st semester senior year) OR AVID in 11th and 12th grades
CAS experiences--completed outside of classes
** there are no minimum score requirements, but students must sit for the exams in their Diploma Program courses
IB Diploma Fail Conditions
CAS requirements have not been met.
Candidate’s total points are fewer than 24.
An N has been given for theory of knowledge, extended essay or for a contributing subject.
A grade E has been awarded for one or both of theory of knowledge and the extended essay.
There is a grade 1 awarded in a subject/level.
Grade 2 has been awarded three or more times (HL or SL).
Grade 3 or below has been awarded four or more times (HL or SL).
Candidate has gained fewer than 12 points on HL subjects (for candidates who register for four HL subjects, the three highest grades count).
Candidate has gained fewer than 9 points on SL subjects (candidates who register for two SL subjects must gain at least 5 points at SL).
