Know Nippon is a seminar series where you can learn about Japanese history and culture in English.
The theme of our first session is “Early History of Japanese Food Culture.”
The food we enjoy every day has developed alongside changes in the natural environment, people’s lives, and society.
In this seminar, we will explore the history of Japanese food culture in an easy-to-understand way in English—from food and daily life in the Palaeolithic Period, through the beginning of agriculture and the Jomon, Yayoi, Kofun, and Nara periods, to the development of food culture during the Heian Period.
By looking at Japanese food culture through the lens of history, let’s discover how it connects to Japanese culture and everyday life today.
