EXAM BOARD AND SPECIFICATION:   

EDEXCEL GCSE in Art and Design (1AD0) 

Unit 1 : COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS- A personal portfolio including the best selection of work from years 10 and 11. This equates to 60% of the total GCSE mark. At least one completed A3 sketchbook evidencing the creative journey of ideas including observational drawings, sketches, collection of photographs, responses to artsists, designers and craftspeople in a broad range of media, materials and techniques. Traditional and digital techniques are expected as evidence. Annotation will support the visual journey.  At least 2 sustained outcomes must also be presented. Sustained outcomes normally equate to around 15 hours of 'making time' each. All work to be professionally presented. 

Internal Deadline : 28th April 2023

Unit 2 : EXTERNALLY SET ASSIGNMENT (ESA) REQUIREMENTS - A further sketchbook and portfolio of work that documents the students personal creative journey based on the Externally Set Assignment theme.  This unit works similarly to the coursework unit but within a much shorter time period (January to the end of March). This equates to 40% of the total GCSE mark. The ESA unit concludes with a 10 hour 'Period of Sustained Focus' to complete an outcome under exam conditions.

Subscribe to blogs and journals to raise your awareness of the art and design world.

Look at university websites and students on line galleries/final year shows for inspiration.

Lots of drawing, exploring ideas, experimenting, being confident to connect artists with own outcomes.

Graphic Design

EXAM BOARD AND SPECIFICATION:      

EDEXCEL GCSE in Art and Design: Graphic Communication (1GC0

Unit 1: COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS- A3 design folder evidencing the creative journey and visual communication of ideas and concepts in response to a theme. This equates to 100% of the total GCSE mark. Students must evidence their creative design journey through drafting ideas, using own photographs, typography and referencing designers. They should  use a broad range of media, materials and techniques -traditional and digital.  A strong design awareness is key as is the focus on using a range of Apps on IPADS. Annotation will support the visual journey.  At least 3 sustained design outcomes will conclude the submission and a final photoshoot of the design collection is essential.

Photography

EDEXCEL GCSE in Art and Design: Photography (1PY0)                

Unit 1: COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS:

Personal sketchbooks evidencing the creative journey of ideas and outcomes for exhibition: 

Firstly evidencing that students have learnt a variety of processes to include pinhole cameras, use of aperture/shutter/ISO in dSLR cameras and understand the principles of visual communication.

Secondly evidencing that students can respond to a magazine brief by researching the visual style of their chosen magazine, the work of the magazine's notable photographic contributors and respond creatively using knowledge of lighting, design, digital software (Adobe Photoshop & InDesign) and camera control.

Thirdly by developing an idea based on synthesising approaches from different photographers with new techniques chosen by the student themselves. This should demonstrate the visual journey of ideas through experiments with media, materials & processes, sketches and plans, photoshoots and research into the work of other artists and photographers. This work should lead to at least one 'final outcome'.

EDEXCEL GCSE in Art and Design: Textile Design (1TE0)        

COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS: A personal portfolio including at least one A3 sketchbook evidencing the creative journey of ideas. This will demonstrate the visual journey of ideas through observational drawings, sketches, collection of photographs, responses to artsists, designers and craftspeople in a broad range of media, materials and techniques. Traditional and digital techniques are expected as evidence. Annotation will support the visual journey.  At least 2 sustained outcomes (of at least 15 hours each) wil conclude the portfolio.

Hospitality and Catering

 WJEC Level 1/2 Award in Hospitality and Catering

COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS:

 Unit 1 The Hospitality and Catering Industry assessment - External. Written paper in June.

40%  - 90 minutes 

Unit 2 Hospitality and Catering in Action assessment - Internal

60% The assessment will be assigned for the students to answer a brief that sets out an applied purpose. 9 hours to complete coursework, 3 hours to create 2 dishes.

Practice your cooking skills at home to manage timing of preparation/ cooking and serving.

Watching cookery programmes/ Bake off. Next Level Chef, Great British menu.

Look at recipes on the website.

Go through past papers/ model answers on firefly.
