Youth Advisory Committee

In October 2022, Mount Madonna School launched the MUN Youth Advisory Committee, composed of students from regional schools to help plan and direct Model UN events for middle and high school students in the region. In addition to Mount Madonna School, the committee composed of students from Moreland Notre Dame (Watsonville), Santa Cruz Montessori School, Stevenson School and Santa Catalina (Monterey) and Carmel School.

The first job of the committee has been to plan the February 2023 Mount Madonna School MUN conference. Tasked with defining the theme and topics, coordinating outreach and running the majority of the event, the larger goal is to catalyze and develop local youth leadership to be able to grow MUN, service in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and the leadership needed to promote global education for all youth everywhere.

The students chose to focus on two broad areas: climate justice and issues of equity, resulting in the MUN conference theme: Climate Justice for All: Addressing Inequality.  SDG 13 (Climate Action),  SDG10 (Reduced Inequalities) and  14 and 15 (Life Below Water and Life on Land) underpin this year's conference. A conference charity and action campaign is also being planned by students.  More information about the conference, including the committees and debate topics can be found here. Registration is open and can be found here.

Mount Madonna School is proud to support these emerging MUN leaders and looks forward to building partnerships that advance Model United Nations and action on the SDGs for all!
