Rylan will score in the Early 9 range of the Reading Comprehension: Fiction domain of the End of the Year i-Ready reading diagnostic test.
1st Long-Term Learning Target: I can demonstrate my knowledge of Early American history, government and civics through a TED Talk-style presentation that analyzes the major political and social changes that affected the definition of citizenship and the rights of citizens, and explain how those changes continue to impact marginalized groups today.
What was your overall grade level score? What does it mean?
Over all I got middle 8th grade, which means my reading level at the beginning of the year in reading was at an mid 8th grade level.
What percentile did you score?
I scored in the 91st percentile which means I tested higher than 91% of people who took the same test at the same age.
What domain did you score the highest in and which domain did you score the lowest in?
I scored the highest in phonics and high-frequency words. For these domains I surpassed the level and I'm not really sure what that means but I think it means I tested higher than what they were testing me for. And for vocabulary I got 9th grade level which means I tested the same as a freshmen would. I scored the lowest in comprehension of literature and comprehension of informational text, I scored mid 8 in these which means it is the level of an 8th grader in the middle of the school year.
Goal for the end of the year:
By the end of the year iReady test, I want to score the 9th or 10th grade level in reading and ELA. I will do this by paying attention during class and working hard on improving.
This Socratic seminar is about the book we are reading in class. We answered the questions:
How have the decisions made in the Constitution Convention of 1787 affected modern day people and in what ways do we see them playing out in Just Mercy? What differences and similarities are there between the beliefs of the founding fathers and the way the law is being practiced in Just Mercy?
Why did Bryan Stevenson want to run when the police officer treated him with a gun (pg. 42), and why did he choose not to? What was unjust about this scene, and what modern injustices did this scene make you think of and why?
In chapter four, Bryan and others witness an execution. The author argues this execution took place to meet an execution "quota." Is this just? If the Governor of Alabama had attended this execution, would he have changed his mind like the Governor of Illinois did? Why or why not?
On the written assignment part of this seminar I get an exceeds because I put a lot of work into it and wrote a lot. On the verbal part of this I got a meets plus because I made good points and talked a lot. For the next Socratic seminar I want to talk more and use evidence from the book.
After every chapter we read in the book we would write a summary of what happened in that Chapter and write a quote that shows injustice, and how the quotes shows injustice. I got an exceeds of this because I talked about every chapter some with multiple quotes that show injustice.
For this project I learned about discrimination against Jewish people in the United States. I worked on related information I am saying verbally to information visibly. For all parts of this exhibition I got a Meets except for the slides portion I got an Exceeds.
