This seminar was about injustices in the book Just Mercy. I got an exceeds on my written assignment because I filled out the entire sheet and did my best authentic work. I did lots of research on the topic and tried my hardest. I got a Meets+ on my verbal participation, likely because I met the requirements for talking and how much information I had shared. For next time, I would like to be more direct in how I talk and what I’m getting at. For instance, I would like to make a “script” with key points and valuable information that I should say during the socratic seminar.
For our TED Talks, we needed to get resources to use in our presentations. For this, we went into deep research to find out whether our sources were reliable, who the author was, what its argument was, etc. My topic was about Red Lining and Housing Segregation. I found 4 articles about my topic and I believe I did well on being extra thorough with my research. For the future, I would do the extensions to get an exceeds, but I am still proud of the work I did overall.
At the beginning of the year, our class started reading the book Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson, a lawyer for people on death row in the south or wrongfully imprisoned or denied of basic human rights. Every time after reading a chapter, we would fill out a document about what that chapter was about, a quote that shows an injustice, and how that was unfair and showed inequalities in our US. I did well on connecting the chapter to inequalities and finding quotes, but for the future I would have been more specific with my information and added page numbers to my quotes.
I ended up getting an Exceeds for the written Socratic Seminar part and the verbal part.
I got an exceeds on this vocab quiz about Westward expansion, which was surprising because I didn't know we had a vocab quiz that day and I didn't study so I just winged it. For the future, I plan to be more prepared and stay on track of what is happening and what to get ready for.
