Identity

The grade level lens in 7th grade is “Identity.” At the beginning of the year my definition of identity was a sense of  self or who you perceive yourself to be. Now my definition of identity is the actions you take. My identity has shifted this year to include effort and hard work because I have been putting more effort into my assignments.  An example of this is my Henry Allport - Presentation Script which I used a lot of effort in because I did most of it at home.

 My significant adult is Christian Koules, who is my sailing coach.  I have known Christian for two years. Christian demonstrates effort by putting energy into his coaching  and he demonstrates refinement by taking feedback he is given.  He apologizes when he makes a mistake and moves on.  I would like to emulate Christian by developing confidence and taking criticism well.                

I think I have grown in respect by not needing as many redirects in class but I still need to be reminded to be on task a few times. An assignment where I could show more respect is freshwater of Model of Natural Selection by us because I became frustrated with my group members.  My second example of a situation where I had to use respect was the Silk Roads Exhibition because I had to be respectful to my group mates. I think I did well on this because I took ownership over work.  My third example is an extracurricular. In the swim team I have to demonstrate respect by encouraging and supporting my teammates. 

I think I have improved in integrity by being more respectful to my group mates in projects. My first example is evolution of Storytelling slide shows where I think I could have shown more integrity because I was disrespectful towards my teammates.  My second example is my Silk Roads group project where I think I was more respectful to our group mates by not being mad at them. Instead tried to disagree respectfully and focus on finishing our project. 

I think effort is the habit where I have grown the most this year. My first example is my Righting Wrongs Annotations which I did not put much effort into. My second example is my Rights & Responsibilities Annotations which was the same type of assignment as my first example but I put more effort into it and got a much better grade.  My third example is my Silk Road CHOICE BOARD PROJECT  which I did  at home and I was not required to put much effort into but I still put a lot of effort into. 

I think I have grown in refinement however I have not had many opportunities to demonstrate it.  The first opportunity I'm going to discuss was my identity box for purpose learning. I initially did not have a very good project for this but I was given the opportunity to stay in at lunch but I chose not to take it showing a lack of refinement. Another opportunity I had to demonstrate refinement is my Silk Roads research essay. Research Essay final. On my first draft of this I was missing two paragraphs then I went back and refined it to fulfil the expectations
