Habits of heart and mind goals: LINK
Respect goal reflection: I think I accomplished my goal because I talk way more positively to myself. I think why I talk more positively to myself is because I haven't had serious things on my mind such as when I wrote this goal, I was suffering from OCD but now I take pills so I feel a lot better.
Goal for Respect: To be more positive to myself and use more positive self talk.
This is what I commit to doing that will contribute to me accomplishing my goal for Respect... I will commit to telling myself I'm good at other things if I get a question wrong.
TPOL reflection:
At the beginning of the year, my goal for respect was To be more positive to myself and use more positive self talk..
I achieved this goal because I talk way more positively to myself. I think why I talk more positively to myself is because I haven't had serious things on my mind such as when I wrote this goal, I was suffering from OCD but now I take pills so I feel a lot better.
Evidence:
The first project I showed respect in was the Inca exhibition because if my partner wrote or had an idea that I didn’t like, I respectfully disagreed instead of being rude about it.
In art, when I made my cat out of oil pastel, I respect myself more because when I got a shading or color wrong, instead of just telling myself I sucked I tried again.
Goal for integrity reflection: I think I accomplished/didn't accomplish my goal. How I accomplished my goal is I am a role model for little kids such as my 4/6 year old neighbors I have. But how I haven't been a role model is for my classmates because sometimes I am distracted by my friends during class, and that is not how you should act.
Definition of Integrity: Doing the right thing even if no one's watching.
Goal for Integrity: Be more of a role model for others.
This is what I commit to doing that will contribute to me accomplishing my goal for integrity... I will commit to going for an exceeds and push others to do the same.
TPOL reflection
I understood integrity to mean doing the right thing when nobody's watching. By the end of this year, I think I have improved on integrity because I no longer have distracting friends that I talk to.
Evidence:
I’ve shown my integrity in this way in pretty much every assignment I’ve had in my second semester, but I particularly shined at this in the science exhibition. and that way is staying on task. In the first semester, I had terrible integrity and played computer games and talked to my friends when the teacher wasn't looking, but in this assignment, even though vincent, a distracting peer, was my partner, I still pulled through and stayed on task the entire time.
The next assignment I showed integrity on is the I-ready diagnostic because a kid cheated on it and got in trouble, but I would never even think of doing that because I want to do my best on the diagnostic so the teachers know my true level.
Effort goal reflection: I honestly think that I have accomplished my goal because when I'm doing a task, usually I push for an exceeds unless I'm having a hard time with it. For example, when me and Jaxon were doing the breaking news project, we pushed for an exceeds but unfortunately didn't finish the exceeds extention.
Goal for Effort: Push for an exceeds when I am doing a task, and don’t just do the bare minimum.
This is what I commit to doing that will contribute to me accomplishing my goal for Effort... To ingrain into my brain to do the extra work to get an exceeds.
TPOL reflection:
At the beginning of the year, I demonstrated effort when I'm doing a task, usually I push for an exceeds unless I'm having a hard time with it. For example, when me and Jaxon were doing the breaking news project in humanities, we pushed for an exceeds but unfortunately didn't finish the exceeds extension.
I understood effort to mean try hard while doing a task. By the end of this year, I have evolved my thinking and I now don’t just think that you can only use effort while doing a task, but you can put effort into almost everything, even the other habits of heart and mind.
Evidence:
I used effort in the “Luke’s turning points” from the book Among the hidden. I think I used effort on this assignment because I got an exceeds on it. I think the reason I got an exceeds is because I put in a lot of effort into the poster and it looked really good.
The next assignment that I have to talk to you about is the science exhibition because even though i didn’t get the best grade i could have, which i think i didn’t because i was partners i had bad chemistry with, but I did the best that I could do. The reason i'm particularly proud is because i made a really good model in art.
Refinement goal reflection: I think I have totally failed my goal because I have a bad habit of not looking over my work. How I could remember to refine my work is to write a note to do it.
Goal for Refinement: Look over my work more often.
This is what I commit to doing that will contribute to me accomplishing my goal for Refinement... make sure I proofread after I finish a task so I change a mistake I made if I made one.
TPOL reflection:
At the beginning of the year, I didn’t demonstrate refinement because I have a bad habit of not looking over my work. How I could remember to refine my work is to write a note to do it.
I understood refinement to mean making your work better after you finish. By the end of this year, I have not written any notes or committed to my goal in any way, and I’m disappointed about it. Refinement is just one of those habits of heart and mind that is hard to remember to do, although I have used it a couple times in my assignments.
Evidence:
I actually am using refinement right now while I’m typing this because I see a spelling error in “refinement”, so instead of just letting the spelling errors go, I fix them, even though they’re a pain in the butt.
The next example I have is of the Aztec/Inca exhibition for humanities. We had to make mini models of artifacts we made and every time I thought I had finished and it looked perfect, I realized that it was missing something and I refined it.
