In science we are working on a joint exhibition with ELA about rock layers of our region. My region is California so we will research the rock layer and the plate tectonics about California. Soon we will use clay to demonstrate the rock layers.
The first lab we did was with starburst and turning it into a metamorphic rock. The first thing we did was cut up the starburst to show as an example of eroded rocks, then we formed it into a ball show and example of compaction and sedimentation! Then we used a cup of boiling hot water to create hot magma (dad I know you will like that part). After that we let it cool and used heat and pressure by using parchment paper and an iron.Once it is cooled the cycle starts over.In this lab I learned how rocks never get a break.
The next lab we did with gram crackers icing chocolate chips and rice krispies. The gram crackers were used as tectonic plates, the icing was used as the asthenosphere (part of the mantel),also the chocolate chips were used as the mountains formed, finally the the rice krispies were used as oceanic crust. In this lab we broke the gram crackers in half and used the icing, then pushed the two half together once the lithosphere was made we added the chocolate chips to represent mountains created. After that we cut the rice krispies in half and did the same thing we did with the gram crackers.I learned in this lab that earth has many different crusts and many ways to form it,I hope you learned things too about both!
My Exhibition went pretty well on the geology side.Me and my group did pretty good on making a diagram of rock layers although I did get an approach because of me not being there but my group did well while they didn't have everyone there. It also impacted my learning a lot to be patient and kind because that can make a huge difference in how you work with your group.like when my group member would just make tools and not help with the house we said hey can you please help us and not work on tools right now,but it just made him want to do it more and get off track easier. So with that I would love to also work on my constructive feedback. As you can see I learned and am working on a lot of things sense the exhibition.
For one of my first science exhibitions I loved it! This helped a lot with my understanding of space. For this project I got to work in a group of 3,it was hard at times but other than that it was great. Some of the challenging things that happened based on my grade and reflection on it was that I want to communicate more with my group.Something that I think we did pretty good as a group was creating things and making it as fun as we could make it,and as interactive as we could. Some of the reasons it helped my understanding of space is realizing that it is fun and cool like the asteroid belts to even the gravity on the planets. As you can see i tried and learned a lot.
This project was really fun considering how we got to do this in and outside of school also this project stood out to me in a fun way was that we could express our creative ability with how we wanted to present this project. My group partner and me helped our community by reaching out to the Harold swell as repurposing clothes and donating them as well as making posters and putting them up around school, and doing interviews. An obstacle we overcame as a group was that this had a short deadline so we used a lot of our free time in and outside of school,That also ties into how we grew by learning how to be responsible with our time.We did well understanding this project by learning about it and also doing a project on it.As you can see this was a fun project but swell as a educational one.
