Just Mercy Socratic Seminar: In this Socratic seminar, I got an exceeds on both the talking part and the written part. This seminar was about what we have read so far in just Mercy. I think I did really good in this Socratic seminar, but something I could work on or a goal I could set for the future is to be less nervous.
According to i-Ready, I am at the mid 8th grade level in humanities. I scored in the 81st percentile. I scored the highest in comprehension: informational text, and I scored the lowest in comprehension: Literature. By the end of the year i-Ready test, I want to score in 9th grade for humanities.
This is for a book that we are reading called Just Mercy. We used it to summarize the chapter we read that day, add a quote, and explain why we used that quote. I think it is useful because we have to think deeper about what's happening in the book instead of just reading it.
In this document, we started to research about the topics we were thinking about doing for our TED Talk exhibition in humanities. The topics I researched were women's rights and racial profiling and arrest. I got a meets on this.
In this exhibition, I got a meets overall. I got an exceeds on a couple of things like my slides, but a meets on most. My topic for this exhibition was women's rights and gender Inequality. Something I could improve upon is that I accidentally read the wrong note card for the wrong slide, and it was a bit confusing for me and everyone, so next time I won't do that. Overall, this Exhibition went pretty well.
Blood and Thunder Socratic Seminar 1: I got a meets on this Socratic seminar. This was about if Kit Carson is guilty or not, and also it was about basically all that has happened so far in the book Blood and Thunder. We also had a written component to this seminar, and I got a meets on that, too.
Blood and Thunder Socratic Seminar 2: I got a meets+ on this Socratic seminar because I participated a lot. This seminar was about talking about how well the author wrote the book, and Kit Carson's character. On the written component to this seminar, I got a meets+ too.
This readers log is for a book called Blood and Thunder. The book Blood and Thunder is about Kit Carson and westward expansion and settlement. We use this reader's log to better understand the book while reading it. I got a meets on this project.
We made an argumentative research paper on a controversial topic of choice, I made mine on how animal testing should be banned. I got an exceeds+ on this paper, which I am extremely proud of, because I never used to be that good at writing essays. The habit of heart and mind I used the most during this was effort.
This exhibition was about hosting a Mock Trial to see if Kit Carson is guilty of mass murder or not. To build background knowledge, we read the book Blood and Thunder which was about Kit Carson, and his role in westward expansion, and what happened during that time. I grew as a student during this project because when we were reading the book Blood and Thunder, I didn't find it very interesting, but I still used a lot of effort to gain as much information and pay attention as much as possible throughout this book. I learned a lot about how a mock trial works, and one of the most important skills I learned was how to stay confident and composed under pressure. I would give myself a meets on this project, because I contributed to my group really well, I did good on my written aspect, and was confident during the oral part of the Mock Trial. One goal I have for the next unit is to try and get an exceeds on that unit.
