Is participation in the Science Fair required?
No, but it is highly encouraged. Your teachers and principals hope you will participate at least once, and once you do we are sure you'll want to do it again! We really want you to want to do it -- we hope you will take on this project because you care about it.
Can I work with my friends on a science fair project?
Yes, there can be up to 3 students working together on one project.
Can I work alone if I want to?
Yes, feel free to dive into your project on your own.
If I work with a friend does my friend have to be in my own grade?
You may work with students from any grade 3-5.
Do I work on this at home or at school?
Your project must be done at home.
Do I get a big prize if I win?
This is a non-competitive science fair. All participants will receive recognition for their hard work with a certificate and medal. The best prize of all is the pride you feel in a job well done -- not to mention a ton of learning!
Where do I get a display board?
You may buy a display board from Mr. Lundberg for $3 each. I have many colors available. You may also buy one at a local store, or make one out of an old cardboard box. The only requirement is that is stands up on its own.
Can my parents help me?
Parents can be a great resource for your science fair project. They're smarter than you think! But remember, this is YOUR project and you are the one who should do it.
Is it okay to use live animals in my project?
As long as there is no cruelty to animals, there is no problem. If you bring an animal to the science fair it must be kept in a cage or tank at all times. However, we cannot allow dogs or cats to be at the science fair.
I am in 2nd grade. Can I be part of the Science Fair?
1st and 2nd graders will do a science fair project with Mr. Lundberg when they come to specialist class. They can look forward to doing their own project when they are in 3rd grade. However, if a 1st or 2nd grader wants to help an older sibling or friend, they may do so as an "assistant." They will not get the medal or certificate, but will receive a ribbon instead.
Can I do the same project I did last year?
NO! Expand your horizons, learn something new! But, if you have a topic you really love and your really want to learn more about it, do something different with it. If you did a demonstration on it last year, perhaps this year you can turn it into an experiment.
