Today's Focus: Why Volunteer? (Teacher Reads Aloud)
Volunteerism is donating your time, skills, and energy to benefit others and/or your community without expecting any financial compensation.
If each student in this school can give their effort and talents through volunteerism, imagine the community impact that could have!
Throughout ACP homerooms, we will discuss and reflect on your own volunteerism throughout high school.
While this may initially seem like just another thing...the goal is to expose you to the habit of helping before you enter the adult world.
Let's hear from a few current high school seniors on their volunteering experiences:
Please watch video: Volunteerism
Benefits of Volunteering
Volunteerism has many benefits! Some of these benefits may include:
Helping to fill a need in your neighborhood, school, or community.
Building your skills of communication, leadership, teamwork, time management, etc.
Networking with other community members, professionals, and leaders that you wouldn't have met in the classroom.
Reducing stress, improving mental health, and creating a sense of belonging.
Can you think of any other benefits?
Reflecting & Planning Ahead with Volunteerism
Reflect on any volunteering you may have completed this year.
It could be through a club or sport, in your neighborhood, through your church, within our community, etc.
Also think about how you can plan for next school year with potential volunteer opportunities!
Students, please take the next few minutes to complete our Activity Sheet: 🌟 Volunteer Reflection & Future Planning
Place completed Activity Sheet in Student Resource Folder (located in the teacher homeroom crate).
We will continue discussing and reflecting on volunteerism each year in ACP homerooms.
