We wish everyone who is celebrating Chinese New Year a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year! Rishan got ready to celebrate early and send us a picture of this dragon that he and his brother made!
Why not go to pick up your free half term art pack and some treats from the children's centre? The art pack contains instructions how to make your own Chinese Dragon! Or just get creative and invent your own... don't forget to send us your pictures, we love seeing what you get up to!
And if you want to know more about how the Chinese New Year is celebrated, click here
Miss Korinna shows you a simple speech and language game that you can play with your child to practice speech sounds. Practicing speech sounds is important because it makes the muscles stronger that we need to form words. Actors and singers practice speech sounds as part of their warm up before they go on stage to perform... don't be shy to make the sounds with your child, it can be very funny to try this together! It is also funny as adults to find out that different languages have different sounds for things. In the German language for example, an ambulance goes 'tatu tataa' instead of 'neenaa neenaa'. Why not try this speech sound game in your home language?
We are celebrating Chinese New Year at Nursery this week. Here is our focus book 'Lanterns and Firecrackers'. You can look at this book together!
Can you make a Dragon with the items from your art pack that you have collected from the nursery? What colour will you paint your dragon?
Send us pictures of your dragons to centre@morningside.hackney.sch.uk. We will share it on this website with your nursery friends on the Celebrating You page. We have had so many pictures of your lovely home learning sent to us already! Thank you everyone!
This is a great story about what happens during Chinese New Year. It is a simple book introducing your child to Chinese culture and a celebration.
Parents can read the story aloud, taking time to talk together about the pictures, encouraging them to repeat words and point to pictures that interest them.
You can talk about colour, shape , and count lanterns together.
Ready for collection! We have treats too in a good bag for you to enjoy at half term. Please go to the centre to collet them to take them home.
Can you use chopsticks at home like Ms Marie showed you on zoom? You can collect sticks or use pencils and pretend you are using chopsticks. What can you pick up? You can try anything and you will be practising your fine motor skills.
Miss Korinna shows you how to make your own sock balls out of household materials and how to use them to practice hand- eye coordination. Hand-eye coordination helps children track the movements of their hands with their eyes. Good hand-eye coordination will make it easier for children to learn how to read and write when they go to school later on. Have fun throwing and catching and rolling at targets!
Why not follow these instructions to make a paper plane and see how it flies! Can you practice how to aim at something and throw it over an obstacle or through a doorway?
Miss Marie reads 'We are not tired' by Selina Young. It is a great story about what can happen at bedtime! A brother and sister introduce all sorts of ideas how to use toys for imaginary play and role play. There are so many play skills to learn from this book!
Miss Korinna demonstrates how to make print marks with different everyday recycled objects and toys. Why not have a go at trying out some of the methods suggested or even inventing your own ones? At the end of the session, use your children's paint covered hands to demonstrate to them how our hands get clean when we wash them!
