About Us

The One Morgan Band Program

The Morgan County Band Program provides instrumental instruction to students 6th - 12th grade and allows students performance opportunity with traditional concert bands, jazz bands and small chamber ensembles, and with the Morgan County Bulldog Marching Band. We follow the tradition of "One Morgan" which is prevalent in our school system by considering ourselves a single, seamless program from beginning band all the way to the highest level of musical instruction. Read below to learn more about the performance opportunities students have through our program.

Concert Bands

At Morgan County Middle School, under the direction of Karisa Seymour, students begin instruction in the beginning 6th grade band. Here, they learn fundamentals of reading and making music on both recorders and on traditional band instruments. 7th and 8th grade students participate in intermediate and advanced bands, allowing students the opportunity to participate in an ensemble which meets their instructional needs while still providing a challenging environment for growth and development. The two grade-level bands perform at LGPE for adjudication, and both regularly earn Superior ratings.

At Morgan County High School, under the direction of Jeffrey Rowser and Andrew Duggins, students have 2 mixed-grade ensembles to participate in, based on performance ability. We have the Concert Band as well as our premiere performing ensemble, the Symphonic Band. Our Concert and Symphonic bands both perform at LGPE for adjudication and have received straight Superior ratings for many years.

Marching Band

The Morgan County Marching Bulldog Band consists of high school students who want experience playing in a corp-style marching band and athletic pep band. Our marching band works hard to perform and compete regularly throughout the season, earning awards and accolades every year for musicality and marching technique including Class 4A and Runner-Up Grand Champion awards from the Lake Hartwell Marching Competition in 2023.

Small Ensembles

Students have the opportunity to perform in smaller chamber ensembles and jazz band throughout the One Morgan Band Program. The High School uses our annual AFLAT Fine Arts Showcase to feature select students will perform solo and chamber works to audiences throughout the building. This year, every student has been placed into at least one chamber ensemble which rehearses multiple times every week. The MCMS jazz band regularly performs in public venues around the state, including recent performances at the Governor's Mansion. All of our students also participate in Solo and Ensemble, which provides them an opportunity to be assessed and to receive feedback in these smaller groups. Our students regularly earn superior ratings at these events for their chamber performances as well as solo work.
