CIO's Message - Morgan strong for Fall 2018!

It's Fall 2018. We've got exciting news -- we're now the Division of Information Technology (DIT). #MorganStrong.

Introducing the Division of Information Technology

We're pleased to announce that the Office of Information Technology is now the Division of Information Technology (DIT). As a result, our notices and communication sources will change to reflect our new name. Email notifications regarding planned or unplanned outages will emanate from DIT_Notices@morgan.edu (formerly OIT_Notices). Our Twitter account has been renamed, @DITatMSU.

In an effort to continue to provide excellent customer service, we'll be working on a newly designed web site, which will include a Service Catalog and a simplified menu structure.

It's SAT time! A Message from our Security team

  • Coming in September, all faculty and staff will be required to take the Security Awareness Training (SAT). The online training, by MediaPro, covers best practices for basic information security and can be applied here at Morgan and in your personal life. This will be a re-certification for those who completed the previous SAT. For those hired after September 2016, this will be new. Look for the email in your inbox the first week of September. Remember, the use of Smartphones or tablets was problematic for a lot of us. So, use your desktop and save your certificate.
  • October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM). During the month, the Information Systems Security Office (ISSO) will be sending tips and information to enhance your cyber security knowledge as well as host workshops and have open discussions around cyber security. Stay tuned for the schedule of events.
  • Reminder: The Information Systems Security Office is always willing to promote better and more secure cyber habits. At your request, we will speak about broad or specific topics in cyber security with small to larger groups. Please email isso@morgan.edu to schedule a session.

Learn Something New

This year we are changing the format of many of our workshops. To kick off the semester, we'll have our usual round of face to face Blackboard workshops. However, as the semester progresses you'll find more webinars, online and self-paced workshops, as well as opportunities to earn certifications in several instructional technologies.

New this year will be workshops on the Flipped Classroom, Finding Open Educational Resources (OER), Using Student Response Systems, FlipGrid and Adobe Spark

Also, this year, we'll be bringing back our Lunch-Learn-Link sessions. Watch your email for weekly news from ATS!

From our Mobile management Services Team

DIT would like to welcome the Telecommunications staff to the DIT family. Telecommunications Services will now be known as Mobile Management Services (MMS). Hello? Troubleshoot your Desktop Phone

Take a look at your desktop phone. Do you see any of the following?

  • Blinking amber light on the handset
  • Black display screen
  • Solid blue light over the speaker button

To quickly resolve this issue, please do the following:

  1. Perform a manual reboot by simply unplugging the phone from the wall for approximately 5 seconds.
  2. Once the phone is re-plugged back into the wall port/jack, the reboot process will automatically begin.
  3. The phone should re-register with the network and become fully operational in approximately 1-2 minutes.

Still won't work? Contact the Service Desk 443.885.4357.

Computer Replacement Standards

Each year in early August, the Division of Information Technology (DIT) determines Computer Replacement Standards for university-owned equipment. The standards are developed so departments understand when computers in their area need to be replaced and when DIT will no longer maintain them.

Departments are responsible for funding computer replacements. Upon replacement, old machines should be removed by Property Control for secure disposal. Quotes for replacement computers should be obtained from the Service Desk to ensure compatibility and DIT support.
