Math Night

Published on: February 12, 2025
On January 30, 2025, Mary Our Queen’s Math club held an event called Math Night. This event involved four groups of students, who hosted math games for younger students to participate in. This year's math night theme was Hawaiian reflecting on the group names, such as Maui, O’ahu, Moloka’i, and Lana’i. Each group consisted of a group leader, and four to five group members.
Each group member had a station including a fun math game where you can have fun and learn! Kids received a ticket with each island name along with its game title at the entrance. Each contestant had to play each game and then the host of the game crossed out the game title on the ticket. Once the contestant completed each and every game, they could go to a candy table called “candy island”, full of delicious assorted candy. Each person who finished was able to grab a bag and fill it with their favorite candies.
This year was very successful when hosting these extravagant math games. Each kid looked like they had fun and learned something new. Even after this event was finished, hosts and other leaders and helpers got to fill their own bag with candy! Each and every student who helped out got to make life lasting memories while hanging out with their closest friends. People of this math club had a wonderful experience and can't wait to do it again!
Showcase of Knowledge

Showcase of Knowledge is a fun way for students to show what they have learned over the years. Parents and grandparents are invited into the school to witness their student in the learning environment. Students do a variety of activities to showcase their knowledge. Eighth grade students displayed their Shark Tank boards and saint presentations. Seventh graders played Scrabble during English and literature and worked on their Genetics with a smile project. Sixth grade students presented their Celestial Bodies project. Showcase of Knowledge united Mary Our Queen families in fun activities and created many opportunities to learn!
Shark Tank

Every year, during Catholic Schools Week, the 8th grade students do the Shark Tank project. This project consists of using their marketing skills to promote a product. They started by watching episodes from the show Shark Tank, and learning about advertising techniques. Everyone got put into groups of 3 or 4, went over the criteria for the products, and finally picked the product they wanted to advertise. Every group was in charge of making a proposal, marketing plan, print ads, a tri-fold board, and a prototype. Finally after three weeks of working on the trifolds and prototypes, parents came in and visited the kids as they shared what their product was and what it did. Overall, this project helped the students learn how to work together, marketing skills, and how to develop and pitch a product.
Author Daniel Kenney

Have you ever read the book Halloween Hooligans? This is just one of the 60 books Daniel Kenney has written. Daniel Kenney is the author that came to Mary Our Queen during Catholic Schools Week. While he was there, he presented to us the story of his life and all of his series of books that he has written. Daniel writes picture books like how to help an impatient cow all the way up to the pirate ninja chapter book series. He even has his own version of a Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which I think is pretty cool. His website is authordanielkenney.com, where you can find all of the stories he has written and published. In addition to learning about his life and stories, he gave us great advice about how to find inspiration through writing. If you're looking for your next good book, look for author Daniel Kenney.
Adopt a family a Christmas Tradition

Students from around the Mary Our Queen school participated in a donation dress down day on Monday, November 25. The dress down day was for the family our school has adopted to help raise money, so we can buy them Christmas gifts.
The family has seven kids along with their parents. Many students were asked to help do the online shopping with some teachers using the store Target.
Some of these people included: Dr. Croy and Mrs. Watson with Cj C. and Marcus P. for the 18-year -old boy. Mrs. Watsabaugh and Mrs. Petersen shopped with Maggie R. and Alayna C. for the 14 - year- old girl.
Many other teachers and students helped shop for the younger kids around the ages 13, 12, 9, 7, and a new born baby. The gifts arrived in the school by December 13 and wrapped on December 16 during House meeting time.
Adopting a family was a great way to show that our community not only wants to help those in need, but also wants to show that helping those who are less fortunate can help us to grow closer to God.
It’s the Kindergartener’s Thanksgiving feast!

The kindergarten rooms will be filled with food you eat on Thanksgiving; it’s the kindergarten’s Thanksgiving feast. There were a lot of crafts such as Thanksgiving placemats. They had a lot of food such as turkey and pumpkin pie. They had a lot of chaperones, supervising the children making crafts and helping pass out food. It was a fun experience for the kindergarteners, celebrating Thanksgiving at school. It also was a way for kindergarteners to make new friends. Hopefully this will be a fun experience for our present kindergarteners.

Every year there is an annual volleyball game held in the Mary Our Queen gymnasium. The people that participate in this event are eighth grade students and teachers throughout the school.
This event is created to help students build stronger relationships with their teachers and peers before they start their journey into high school and the rest of their lives.
This game was played on Tuesday, November 26 at 2:00 P.M. It is always held the day before Mary Our Queen students get out for Thanksgiving break.
The eighth graders turned out on top with winning four out of seven matches going to eleven points. Each eighth grade student was in a group of kids ranging between six to eight students with their own theme.
Some of the many themes included ;Paw Patrol, superheroes, Mario Kart, PJ’S, Barbies and Kens, sharks and lifeguards, and M&Ms.The groups were chosen by eighth grade House prefects.
“It is always fun to compete against the eighth grade class. This year's class showed great sportsmanship, team spirit, and skills on the court,” said Miss McGonigal.
“It was very fun, and I'm very happy my team won. I think that we all played very well,”said Emma R.
The Bake Sale
By: Maggie S. and Segan S.
Published on: November 18, 2024
The Mary Our Queen junior high students hosted a bake sale on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 3:00-3:30 located at the outdoor classroom.
The reasoning behind this is that hurricanes Milton and Helena affected many people on the east coast, especially Florida. It tore through Florida on September 26 and October 9th.
Each student from the junior high Houses was asked to bring 12 items individually wrapped. They all cost $1.00.
“I am glad that Mrs Hoy said yes to a new way for the Houses to do service for others, and all the money goes to the American Red Cross to help victims of the hurricanes in the southeast, “ said Mrs. Meysenburg.
This service project is a great way for our community to live out our Christian faith.
“I think it is a great opportunity to come together as a school and help people in need. I have family on the east coast, and I know they need a lot of prayers,” said Miss McGonigal.
The people that staffed this event are the students of the house of Mother Teresa and their teacher Mrs. Meysenburg.
“I think it went well. There were a lot of people who wanted to buy treats all with a happy facial expression,” said Clara S., a House prefect of Mother Teresa.
We give a big thanks to all who participated in this service activity. We hope in the future we can continue living out our faith in new and creative ways.
Book Fair with Mrs.Vranes!
By: Mary C. and Paige L.
Published on: November 18, 2024
This year's book fair was great. We did not meet our goal of $7200, but we did sell a little bit over $7000 in book sales. Mrs. Vranes, our librarian, does not pick the books, Scholastic does. The best selling book was Diary of a Wimpy Kid Hot Mess, and the worst selling ,which was not actually a book, was the graphic novel section. During the first two days of it they sold 30 copies of the Diary of a Wimpy Kids and maybe not even 5 copies of any of the graphic novels!
The best selling day was the 1st day and the worst was Thursday which was the longest day for the book fair.
Mrs. Vranes gave us her favorites about the books from the book fair. She recommends If anything happens to me and Bad Bunny. Her favorite author was Aaron Blabey who is the author of Pig the Monster. Also, her favorite genre was historical fiction and mystery.
Hope you enjoy your book!
The Spookiest Event is Finally Here!

It may not be the most fun school event to everyone, but to us it definitely is! During Friday night before Halloween, the students of Mary Our Queen have the opportunity to get a preview of Halloween at the MOQ Trunk or Treat.
On this thrilling night, students dress up in their spooky or cute costumes going from trunk to trunk, trick-or-treating. Parents and volunteers park their cars in the school parking lot and decorate their trunks. If you don’t like candy, don’t worry; there is a haunted house and a hayride waiting for you! If you dare to enter the haunted house, you might be scared out of your wits!
Behind the scenes, we have the 8th graders setting up and scaring at the haunted house, which takes place inside of the gym, to prepare for their escapade to Washington D.C.
