Who: Ages 14-23; Pittsburgh/Allegheny County residents
Details: Tier 1 age 14 includes career exploration, workshops, job shadowing, and industry tours. Tier 2 ages 15-19 includes real worksite experience up to 120 hours.

2. Summer High School U - Neighborhood Learning Alliance
Who: Rising 10th-12th grade low-income students ages 15-19 in Pittsburgh/Allegheny County
Details: Free 8-week program with a college course, tutoring/study skills, and paid work experience. Students can earn $12/hour for 20 hours weekly work experience during 6 of the 8 weeks. Pathways include Health, Business, Technology, and Trades/Robotics/Advanced Manufacturing.

Who: Current 10th and 11th grade students in Greater Pittsburgh / Western PA
Details: Hands-on public health learning, field trips, research, and faculty mentoring.

Award: $1,000 upon successful completion

Grade 10: Look for a 3-hour exploration. Good options include Summer High School U, Pitt Public Health Science Academy, or Carnegie Library Teen Internship.
Grade 11: Start building your resume. Consider UPMC M.O.V.E.S, Learn & Earn Tier 2, Pitt Public Health, research planning, or leadership opportunities at Carnegie Museums.
Grade 12: Focus on paid internships, work experiences, mentor connections, and resume-building opportunities.
HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN SHADOW OR MENTOR EXPERIENCE
1. Identify 2-3 local professionals or workplaces in a field you want to explore.
2. Ask a parent, teacher, counselor, or family connection for an introduction.
3. Send a short professional email requesting a shadow day or informational interview.
4. Offer flexible dates and times.
5. Send a thank-you note after the visit.
