Transfer Pathways allow students to complete a designated associate degree at a Minnesota State college and transfer those credits directly into a related bachelor’s degree at a Minnesota State university.
When students follow a Transfer Pathway:
The associate degree is designed around a specific major
All 60 credits transfer together
Students enter the university with junior standing in that major pathway
Minnesota Transfer Pathway degrees are available in a wide range of academic and career-focused fields, including: Accounting, Art, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Communication Studies, Computer Science, Elementary Education Foundations, English, Exercise Science, Mass Communication, Political Science, Pre-Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Spanish, Special Education, Theatre. Each pathway combines MNTC coursework with courses aligned to a specific major.
Admission to the university and specific major requirements still apply.
Monticello High School allows students to begin a Transfer Pathway by completing MNTC coursework alongside pathway-aligned classes during high school. This approach helps students:
Build progress toward multiple Transfer Pathway options
Stay flexible if academic or career interests change
Reduce the number of required courses after high school
Enter college with a clear academic direction and transferable credits
Students do not need to declare a specific Transfer Pathway while in high school. Completing MnTC and foundational coursework at MHS positions students to formally enter a Transfer Pathway program after graduation or through early college options.
Monticello High School offers coursework that lets students start MN Transfer Pathways while in high school. These pathways combine MNTC courses with pathway-specific classes that transfer toward related bachelor’s degrees. Completing these courses early gives you a head start, though additional coursework is required after high school to earn the full degree.
How these courses transfer:
Count toward the relevant Associate in Science (AS) or Associate in Arts (AA/AFA) degree at participating institutions.
Satisfy some MnTC requirements for a smooth transfer to a Minnesota State university.
Additional guidance:
Students do not need to declare a pathway in high school.
Completing these courses at MHS can reduce the number of courses needed after high school to complete the transfer pathway
Important disclaimer:
Transferability depends on university policies.
This guide covers Minnesota State College and University (MnSCU) programs; it does not guarantee that all courses will transfer.
