*What to bring: Please bring the following items daily: a pencil or pen, highlighter, colored pencils, glue, and scissors. Please put these in a zippered pencil case. You must also bring a notebook and folder (same color), assignments due, your textbook, and your charged Chromebook.
Class Rules
1. Be respectful to yourself, others, and property.
2. Be prompt, prepared, and organized.
3. Be physically and verbally appropriate (automatic detention or worse).
4. If the teacher is talking, you are not!
5. I dismiss you, not the bell.
Expectations
1. Do your best.
2. Hand in assignments on time.
3. Use your time wisely – when given free time, use it to do assignments or read.
4. Participate effectively in groups and class discussions.
5. Be polite, respectful, and non-disruptive - appropriate school behavior and
language.
Requirements: Each student will be expected to actively read assignments, complete in-class and out-of-class assignments (homework, if you create your homework), do research projects and reports, and prepare and deliver class presentations.
Evaluation: Students will be evaluated with tests, quizzes, presentations, and various projects and written assignments. This year, you'll be expected to demonstrate what you have learned!
Timeliness: You need to be on time for class. Please make sure to respect everyone’s time.
Google Classroom and McGraw Hill will be utilized frequently this year. They will be used as a medium for me to share lessons, links, and assignments with you and for you to view lessons and complete and turn in assignments. You must check Google Classroom and McGraw Hill daily for assignments and due dates. Contact me immediately if you have problems with your technology so I can help you.
Discipline: I will try to resolve problems verbally, once, if at all. If problems persist, you will be disciplined. Punishment may range from an extra assignment to staying after school for detention. You will be asked to leave if you are a consistent problem in my class. You will be graded on your behavior and following the rules and expectations. Please see the Montevideo School Student Handbook for the Discipline Flow Chart.
Grading: You will be graded on your daily assignments, tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations. Your behavior and participation will also be graded. Late assignments will lose points.
Grading Scale: 97-100% A+ 77-79% = C+ 0-59% - = F
93-96% = A 73-76% = C
90-92% = A- 70-72% = C-
87-89% = B+ 67-69% = D+
83-86% = B 63-66% = D
80-82% = B- 60-62% = D-
Late work: You are expected to turn your work in on time. Late work still not turned in after 1 week may turn to a 0. Also, late work will get graded only when I have time and not before. All tests and quizzes must be made up one week before midquarter and one week before the end of the quarter. If not, those grades turn to a 0 in the gradebook.
Missing, Makeup, and Redo Assignments: Missing, Makeup, and Redo Assignments may receive an automatic reduction of points unless the assignment(s) falls under the Student Handbook policy that the work be made up within three days of the student's return and unless the assignment and checklist requirements are still not met. Missing, makeup, and redo assignments will get graded only when I have time and not before.
Absences: It is your responsibility to come to me to get the assignments you missed. According to the district handbook, you have three days to make up your work, or you may receive "no credit." Please write "absent" at the top of your paper before turning in makeup work, so I don't mistake it as a late assignment. If you are sick, make sure a parent or guardian contacts the MMS office. Doing this will let me know that you could not attend class because of illness or possible illness. You will be allowed the 3-day rule for missing assignments in this case.
Teacher Availability: If you have any questions or need extra help, schedule a time to meet with me before or after school. Or, please, take advantage of Homework Help.
Food and beverages in class: Nothing other than water. Spraying, squirting, spitting, or pouring of water will result in an automatic detention.
Language arts assignments and homework: Unless you finish all of your language arts homework, please do not use class time to work on assignments or do any activities for different classes or mediums.
Substitutes: I might be gone from school and need a substitute teacher. Please be extra respectful to anyone who substitutes for me. Any bad reports may receive an automatic detention.
Please help to keep this room clean: Do not write on the desks. Sit at your assigned desk only. Pick up after yourself. Throw garbage away. Be careful with your property and the school’s property.
Pictures and recording: You should not take pictures of, post pictures of, or record people unless it is for an assignment and with permission. Please read the Student Handbook carefully in this regard. The consequences can be unpleasant.
E-Learning Plan: All assignments will be posted in Google Classroom by 10:00 a.m. and labeled with appropriate headings. ELA 7 Google Classrooms will be open from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. for a questions-and-answer session.
Remember: Respect for all students and teachers is mandatory and #1. The harder you work as a class, the more freedom I will give you as a class.
