This is an online platform to connect University educators across the globe who are teaching our future nutrition and dietetics workforce about sustainable food systems and planetary health.
This platform exists to
Connect educators working in this rapidly evolving field
Showcase teaching and learning practices to inspire and support best-practice
Promote collaborative research efforts to advance practice
This is an evolving platform that is administered on a voluntary basis. If you are a tertiary educator who would like to be showcased on this platform, please complete this online form.
In 2020, eight educators from Australia, Canada the UK and USA were scheduled to facilitate a workshop at the World Public Health Congress (see above) in Brisbane, Australia. Unfortunately due to COVID-19, the Congress was converted to a virtual conference and our workshop could no longer proceed.
One of the objectives for our workshop was to connect educators who are teaching our future nutrition and dietetics workforce about sustainable food systems to promote future research and ongoing collaboration. We therefore created this online platform to share educator details and showcase some learning and teaching practices.
Over 50 delegates from 11 countries, including Ireland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Nigeria, Zambia, Malawi, Australia, USA, and Canada gathered at University College Dublin for a 2-day Global Networking event from 7-8th June, 2023 (NB: not all participants were in this photo).
Read about this event in the ICDA newsletter: "It appeared relationship building was successful with feedback indicating collaboration plans among many of those who attended. Participants emphasised the importance of nurturing the network, continuing to share research and practice, and maintaining momentum."
In 2024, several dietitians from this event facilitated a workshop at the International Congress for Nutrition and Dietetics (ICND) in Toronto. Plans are already in place for collaborative research to build on this work, brining us back together in Dublin for ICND2028!

Monash University, Melbourne AUSTRALIA
A heart-felt thank you to Nora for her voluntary contributions to this Community of Practice.
Nora completed her Bachelor of Nutrition Science in 2025 at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. During her studies, she became interested in sustainable food systems and planetary health (Unit NUT3006). She won the 2025 Summer Vacation Research Scholarship, where she worked under the supervision of Dr Barbour on the Planetary Health Report Card, a student-driven initiative that highlights the emerging planetary health focus featured in the curricula of many tertiary faculties around the world. From this opportunity, Nora began to work on this Sustainable Food Systems Education website. Her previous career as a veterinarian keeps her busy most days but in her spare time, she loves venturing out into nature, eating good food and traveling whenever she can! Areas of interest: Food system sustainability and planetary health, food equity, food security.
