In February of 2026, I was delighted to be interviewed by SBS Radio Australia to share my experience as a Colombian researcher contributing to HCI. The interview was broadcast on SBS Spanish to reach Spanish-speaking audiences in Melbourne. I'm deeply grateful for this opportunity to showcase my work and, hopefully, inspire other Latin women to pursue careers in STEM.
You can access the interview (in Spanish) in the SBS podcast channel here.
Synopsis in English:
Sports, physical activity, and rehabilitation have evolved considerably in recent years thanks to the use of technology. Wearable smart devices, such as watches, phones, clothing, and exoskeletons, as well as games, platforms, and virtual reality, have changed both how we practice sports and how we recover from injuries.
The research of Dr. María Fernanda Montoya, a Colombian researcher at Monash University, focuses precisely on the interaction between humans and computers and on the design of interactive experiences for well-being and physical activity, including rehabilitation, sports, aquatic activities, and interaction with nature.
I was honoured to receive the 2025 Dean's Award for Research Excellence by a Graduate Research Student in the Department of Human-Centred Computing, FIT, Monash University. This award was given in recognition of my research achievements demonstrating a high level of research excellence.
