Monash Arts is an internationally renowned faculty for the humanities, social sciences, languages, and performing arts. We are recognised for producing research that makes a real impact.
Monash Arts is home to six schools and teaching centres across the Caulfield and Clayton campuses, as well as a school in Malaysia, and a number of faculty and school based research centres:
School of Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics (LLCL)
School of Philosophical, Historical and Indigenous Studies (SOPHIS)
Our teaching programs deliver the critical skill sets graduates will need now and in the decades ahead: communication, creativity, problem solving, collaboration, and critical thinking. Our research in the humanities and social sciences informs greater understanding and social change, and seeks to engage with the world and impact on people’s lives.
At Monash Arts, our students are at the core of everything we think and do.
The Faculty of Arts is dedicated to innovative teaching methods and interdisciplinary approaches that engage students with knowledge and learning at the cutting edge of contemporary scholarship and debate. It aspires to the highest teaching standards and approaches through excellence in research and rigorous external peer and student review. We shape critical and engaged thinkers with a passion for lifelong learning.
As Australia’s most enterprising and global Arts program, we create creative and culturally engaged graduates with international mindsets. Monash Arts has the largest number of students travelling on overseas study programs of any faculty in Australia. Our understanding of the value of a global education led us to create our Global Immersion Guarantee – an unparalleled international experience for all first-year Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Global Studies students. Our exemplary Work Integrated Learning program ensures our students are equipped with eternally relevant skills, knowledge and practical experience.
Our degrees cover undergraduate and graduate single and double-degree programs by coursework and research.
Staffed by problem solvers, collaborators and innovators, our centres tackle the greatest issues of our times by producing work that improves the human condition and makes a positive impact on knowledge and the quest for fresh ways of thinking.
Our research centres aid cross-cultural literacy, identify best practice across different industry sectors, and inform government policy and scholarly debate on issues as diverse as gendered violence, declining knowledge of Indigenous languages, and social cohesion. With expertise in more than 40 disciplines across humanities and social sciences, our centres have a proven track record of transforming research outcomes into sustainable solutions at local, national and international levels.
