Being Involved
Research shows that when parents are actively involved, your children:
are absent less frequently
behave better
are self-disciplined
are more motivated
have higher self-esteem
do better academically
Here are some tips to help you stay involved!
Stay in Touch
Know your child's schedule and important events in school
Keep up to date with school correspondence
Maintain regular contact with your child's teachers
Attend school-related events as frequently as possible
Support a Healthy Lifestyle
Ensure sufficient rest and sleep (9 - 11 hours a day)
Encourage your child to have a balanced diet
Make time for unstructured play and physical exercise
Affirm Your Child
Recognise small successes
Praise the process, not the person (E.g. "I love how you put in your best effort and did not give up, good job!" instead of "You are so clever!"
Focus on the efforts, not the outcomes
Spend Time Chatting
Empathise with your child's emotions and understand his/her needs
Ask about your child's thoughts and feelings about school and friends
Discuss challenges and worries your child may face
