STEM Innovation Challenge is a STEM expo where student participants will present their innovative research and engineering design primarily via a poster and a prototype/proof of concept, and are assessed by an independent team of academics from various academic, research institutes and industry partners on the quality of the innovation and the impact of the work on the society.
It will be taking place on Day 1, 24 May 2023.
The key objectives of the STEM Innovation Challenge are:
Bringing budding innovators across schools, local and international, to share and communicate creative and feasible solutions they had designed to serve their local community.
Sharing of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to design solutions (prototype/proof of concept) in benefiting their local communities.
Promoting greater literacy in STEM, innovation and sustainability concepts within our local student community, students and educators from non-participating Singapore schools.
The following details critical information with regard to the STEM Innovation Challenge:
Each participating team is allowed to submit only one student project which can be either an individual project or a team project (maximum of three students under each project) for the challenge.
Students must declare that they have worked on the projects themselves and that they had only received advice or guidance from their teachers.
Each poster should be A0 in size, should be printed by the participants themselves and should clearly indicate the project title, name(s) of the team member(s), the name and/or logo of the school, and the name and/or logo of other institutes involved in the work.
Poster panels are provided for display of poster. Foam boards are not required as backing for posters.
Produce a written project summary in MS Word of not more than two A4 pages. Project Summary should be in Arial font, size 11. These summaries will be compiled and published as expo proceedings.
The categories and their respective descriptors for the STEM Innovation Challenge can be found below.
Separate awards will be given for the Explorer and Voyager Category.
Students will present their projects individually or in a group of maximum three students to a panel of judges at the station.
Students are assessed on their impact on the society, creativity, content, clarity, engagement and efficacy
Prototype/ proof of concept would be advantageous in the judging.
The timeline of judging the presentation will be published on the SISTEMIC 2023 website at a later date.
