During the 3-day level camp, the secondary 3 cohort participated in various activities to learn more about MICEE, the five key practices of exemplary leadership: Model the Way, Inspire a Shared Vision, Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act, and Encourage the Heart. On the first day of level camp, we visited different religious sites in Singapore to learn more about each other’s religions during the Religious Trail. Living in a multiracial society requires us to develop awareness and respect for each other’s beliefs while still practising and believing in our own. I visited the Al-Falah mosque together with my classmates and although I practice the Islamic religion, I was acquainted to fresh intriguing insights after participating actively in quizzes as well as listening to the guides share interesting historical facts and authentic stories.
On the second day, we were involved in many hands-on team building activities such as pitching a tent blindfolded and group drawing with a marker held by strings. These activities mainly taught me the importance of clarity of communication in a team so that the right message is conveyed for the task to be successfully fulfilled. I find these skills applicable in various contexts in school. For instance, during discussions for group projects, communication is key to establish strong work relationships and help us in managing conflicts confidently. As a school councillor, I also adopt these skills as a guiding tool to provide my friends’ support.
This level camp has been a memorable and impactful experience because of the time I spent with my groupmates developing my leadership skills as well as deepening my sense of understanding and commitment towards my community. Being together with my classmates also strengthened the bonds between us and I also discover more about myself. I look forward to more exciting opportunities like this.
