"This is my first time doing an Upcycle project. I am very excited and I am so happy my sister and I registered for this activity. I took about an hour to do and had a hard time cutting the cloth so I got my mummy to help me. Drawing and decorating my secret bag was very fun and I love to use rainbow colors. I learnt to have fun and be creative. There is always a first time and as long as I do not give up, I can learn something too! I will make my own bags in future so that I can reuse, reduce and recycle! 🥳"

"Let me share the process when I did an upcycle pencil case with you. I took around an hour to complete this activity. One of the challenges I faced was cutting the fabric. I also needed help to spread the glue as it may damage the fabric. I asked my father for assistance. My brother and I enjoyed this activity. We like the outcome of it. Instead of throwing my outgrown clothes, I can upcycle them to pencil cases, coin pouches and others, to my own preference. With upcycling, I learnt to be considerate and to avoid wastage."

"This is my first time doing an Upcycle project. It took me about an hour to finish the whole project. Challenge faced while cutting the cloth straight, using the UHU glue to paste zipper on cloth and flipping it inside out.

I asked for my parents’ help to guide me through it. I love the finished product and can use it to put my things. I enjoyed the learning process and I also did make the decorations with some beads to make my own name. I like to make art and crafts and learnt not to give up when you face some difficulties."

Toy Car Activity during
September Holidays

Students made toy cars from recycled material.

"It took around half an hour to make this balloon car. Originally, I tried to make a car using a bottle for the body. However, I scrapped that idea when the design didn't really appeal to me.

In my original design, I think I didn't put enough blu-tac on the wheels, which most likely caused my wheels to be more wobbly. I decided to take the original wheels and axles and wrap more blu- tac around them. This made the wheels less wobbly.

I have learnt to persevere through not giving up despite my original design not being the best."

  Elvberth Yobel Rondonuwu

"I spent about an hour making it.

The challenges I faced was trying to blow up the balloon. Eventually, I managed to blow a bit of air into it, then it got better and the balloon could be blown up.

The values I learnt were: Resilience, Perseverance and Hard work."

"I spent around 45 minutes making the car. At first, when I let the car go after blowing it, the car went to the side. I realised that the straw was not straight. I taped it correctly and it worked. I learnt to be resilient even though it is difficult and be responsible."

  Samik Paratal, 5 Joy

"My balloon car was successful. It had the key parts such as the wheels, the base of the car and a few other parts. I took at least 1 hour and 30 minutes to finish it. I could not cut out the base of the car so I asked my mother to help me.

I also found it difficult to cut out the wheels with a scissors so my mother used a penknife. I learnt to be resilient when facing a problem. Only then can you succeed."
