Students need not pay to attend CCAs but co-payment or payment may be required for items such as CCA uniforms (for Uniformed Groups and Taekwondo) and Taekwondo grading fees.
Students will be informed by their respective CCA teachers of any co-payment/payment required.
It is important that students remain in their CCA so that they benefit from the progression and growth. It requires time and commitment for students to develop skills and discover their talent or interests. Commitment also helps to foster effort and responsibility, and nurtures a sense of belonging as students persevere and represent the school in their respective CCAs.
Students are also exposed to different experiences through the school’s Learning for Life programme (LLP). Over their six years in NBPS, all students go through a variety of experiences that are found across a range of CCAs. For example, students learn the soft and hard skills evident in uniformed groups through cohort camps, and take part in sports that may not even be a CCA in the school.
All CCAs are conducted concurrently on Mondays and this means that it would not be possible for students to take part in more than one CCA.
CCAs are an integral part of our students’ holistic education. Not only do they discover their interest and talents in a CCA, it also promotes friendships among students from different backgrounds. Participation in CCA fosters social integration and deepens our students’ sense of belonging. Therefore, students are strongly encouraged to enrol in a CCA in the school.
External programmes/activities that students engage in outside of school are considered enrichment that they participate in on their own. As such, they are not considered as CCA and cannot be recorded in the report book.
As the activity/competition is done on the student’s own accord and not sanctioned by the school, it cannot be recorded in their report book. Participants in these competitions will usually be given certificates of participation or achievement and these can form part of the students’ personal portfolio. These certificates may be considered by the respective secondary schools during the DSA-Sec Exercise.
Participation in the National School Games or a school-sanctioned competition is considered on a case-by-case basis. You can submit a request via email to the HOD/PE before the end of January. The email address is available on the school website. In addition, the following information should be provided to help the school evaluate the request:
The name and type of competition
The level of preparation for the competition (e.g. years of training, level of competency, recommendation from coaches/instructors of competition readiness…etc).
Parents’ willingness to be appointed as a School Adult Representative (SAR), and to be present at the competition venue throughout the duration of the competition
The school will evaluate each request and inform parents of the outcome. The following are some of the considerations:
The level of readiness/competency of the student
Duration and timing of the whole competition
The availability of manpower
Clashes with school events/compulsory programmes/examinations
Overall performance and conduct of student
Other required information (e.g. Sports like swimming require time trials)
New students should receive a CCA Option form from their Form Teachers or they can request for one. There will be a list of available CCAs in the form. They may also be able to sit-in or experience a CCA depending on the availability and timeline. Students will be given a deadline to submit the completed form to the PE/CCA department. They will be informed of their allocated CCA within 2 weeks from the time of submission.
