Tchoukball may look like an invasion game, but it is actually a net barrier game. It is the fastest hand ball sport in the world today. Invented in the late 1960s, tchoukball is a team sport of 7 players that unites all key sporting skills; athleticism, concentration, respect for oneself, the opposition and teamwork.
Dr Hermann Brandt, the creator of tchoukball, wrote:
'The objective of human physical activities is not to make champions, but make a contribution to building a harmonious society'.
Fair play and respect for the opposition is a fundamental part of the way in which tchoukball is played. All physical contact between players and interceptions are banned, enabling all players of differing shapes and sizes to play together.
The object of tchoukball is to throw the ball at the frame, so that it rebounds and lands over the line of the 'D' in the court. In order to score a point, the ball must bounce off the frame and land outside of the 'D'. If it lands inside the 'D' (known as the forbidden area), it is a point to the defending team.
(taken from the tchoukball federation)
Tchoukball is played between two teams of 5–7 players.
Players pass the ball to move up the court and aim to shoot at either of the two rebound frames.
You can shoot at either frame, regardless of which side your team is on.
The ball must hit the frame and rebound outside the forbidden zone (the semi-circle around the frame) without being caught by the defending team.
No physical contact, no intercepting passes, and no defending the shooter directly.
The shooting team scores a point,
The ball rebounds off the frame and lands on the floor in the legal playing zone (not out of bounds and not in the forbideen zone.
The defending team fails to catch the rebound before it hits the ground.
No point is awarded if:
The ball is successfully caught by the defending team (and it is not dropped)The ball misses the frame.
The ball hits the frame and lands in legal playing zone.
The shooting team concedes a point when:
The ball rebounds directly inside the forbidden zone or out of bounds.
The shot ball misses the whole frame
The shot ball hits the shooter
A foul/turnover usually results in the opposing team gaining possession at the site of the infringement. The team in possession after an infringement, must tap the ball on the ball, then make one pass before they can shoot at an avilable goal. Some rules on the game that may be commonly violated are:
Maximum 3 passes
Maximum 3 foot prints
Maximum 3 seconds to hold the ball
Maximum 3 consecutive shots by both teams on the same frame
Catching your own team's shots
The attacking team catches the shooter's shot
Obstructions (The possession depends on which team infringed this rule)
Stepping on any lines while having posession of the ball.
Stepping into the forbidden area before the shot is released
