Day 3
Day 3 took us to Pinglin, a town famous for its tea. At the Pinglin Tea Museum, we learned many fascinating facts about Taiwan’s rich tea culture and how tea has made its mark around the world. We also discovered the science behind tea, and even learned which snacks pair best with which tea! After a homely lunch, we tried our hands at processing our own tea, then strolled along Pinglin Old Street and across the suspension bridge, taking in the lovely green scenery.
After lunch, we headed to a tea farm for a truly hands-on experience. Dressed up as bona fide tea plantation workers, we set out into the fields to pick our very own tea leaves! Back at the farm, we learned how to roast and roll the leaves, gaining a whole new appreciation for the time, effort and skill that go into every batch of tea.
Then it was time to enjoy the fruits of our labour. We sat down for a tea tasting session, sipping fragrant Taiwanese tea alongside tea eggs and edamame beans. It was the perfect way to put everything we had learned at the museum into practice!
On our way into the city, we made a quick pit stop at the iconic Taipei 101! Standing at its base and looking up at one of the world’s most famous skyscrapers was an awe-inspiring moment, and of course, everyone made sure to capture a group photo with the tower in the background.
Nearby, we also stopped by the iconic LOVE sculpture, a favourite photo spot in the city.
We ended the evening at the lively Raohe Night Market, where the sights, sounds and smells of local street food kept everyone wide-eyed and happy.
Three days in, and the memories are already piling up!
