Higher Malay Language Enrichment Activities
Our P3 to P5 Higher Malay Language enrichment seeks to nurture confident users of the Malay Language through authentic cultural and linguistic experiences beyond the classroom. Engaging activities such as herbal-making workshops, choral reading, and Wayang Kulit help students deepen their appreciation of the Malay language and heritage while developing confidence and joy in learning.
Culture Learning and Appreciation Activities
The learning journeys provide students with opportunities to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Malay culture through authentic and meaningful experiences. P3 students are exposed to traditional art forms through Wayang Kulit theatre performances, while P6 students visit Kampong Glam to learn more about the rich heritage, traditions, and history of the Malay community in Singapore. These experiences help students develop greater cultural awareness and appreciation beyond the classroom.
Reading Promotion Efforts
Complementing the current curricular reading efforts are school-based initiatives such as Student-led recess storytelling sessions, which provide opportunities for students to build confidence, practise expressive reading, and bring stories to life, while audiences listen and engage with the narratives.
Ops BACA Competition
Each year, our students participate in the Ops BACA (Operasi Membaca) Competition held in conjunction with Bulan Bahasa, providing meaningful opportunities to use the Malay language actively in different contexts while collaborating as a team. Through performances such as rap, songs, skits, drama, choral recitals, and poetry recitations, students showcase their creativity and talents while building confidence, communication skills, and a love for reading and the Malay language.
