Higher Chinese Language School-based Curriculum
Our P3 to P5 Higher Chinese Language programme is enriched through experiential learning modules that bring language learning to life. Guided by the BVPS Total Curriculum principles of Care, Choice and Challenge, students select from modules such as Little Theatre Fun, Music Makers, Broadcasting, Junior Journalists, and Picture Book Creation, developed in partnership with industry collaborators. Through these authentic experiences, students apply language in real-world contexts, deepen their connection to Chinese language and culture, and grow in confidence as curious, collaborative, and lifelong learners.
Focused Learning (Online Remediation)
To better support our P3 to P5 students’ Chinese Language learning, a targeted remediation and skills enhancement programme focusing on reading, speaking, and comprehension has been introduced. Through structured speaking, reading and writing online modules, students will strengthen pronunciation, vocabulary use, and their ability to understand and respond to texts with greater accuracy. These are designed to build confidence, improve language proficiency, and support students in becoming more effective users of Chinese Language.
Culture Learning and Appreciation Programmes and Activities
Through local cultural exchange opportunities and overseas learning journeys to China, students deepen their appreciation of Chinese culture through authentic and immersive experiences. These activities broaden perspectives beyond the classroom, enabling them to engage meaningfully with language and traditions, and develop 21st Century Competencies, including Civic, Global and Cultural Literacy, as well as Communication, Collaboration and Adaptiive Thinking skills for an interconnected world.
Reading Promotion Efforts
Complementing the current curricular reading efforts are school-based initiatives such as Story Time during recess, Student Newspaper Reading in class, and the Reading Ambassadors Programme, which provide meaningful platforms for reading within and beyond the classroom, cultivate positive reading habits, fostering a vibrant reading culture.
