Let's revisit the SkillsFuture for Educators (SFEd) which is a professional development (PD) roadmap that guides our teachers to focus their PD efforts in prioritised Areas of Practice.
As you watch the video on the left, you may connect it with your school's current instructional initiatives.
In light of the demands from the school's current instructional initiatives and the phase that your Case Study Teacher might possibly be in, how can you support him/her? Let's take a look at the Support -Challenge Matrix below for some insights.
Striking a good balance between support and challenge is a delicate process. It must be adjusted to cater to the needs of individual mentee and the context of the IM. The Support - Challenge Matrix (Refer to Participant Packet Page 11) shown below aims to help an IM better understand how varying the support and challenge he or she can offer to the mentee.
A cartoon strip below captures snippets of a series of mentoring conversations where IM demonstrates how she provides high support and high challenge to her mentee. Observe the language stems that the mentor uses to steer the conversation.
In the padlet below, response to the following prompts:
What might be the needs, challenges, and concerns about your Case Study Teacher's readiness with regard to the attitudinal phase that your Case Study Teacher might be in currently?
Based on your knowledge of your Case Study Teacher (Module 1), how might a high support and high challenge look like for him/her?
(You may wish to pen down your reflection on the Participant Packet Page 12 before keying onto the padlet below)
Remember to indicate your name as you respond.
We have come to the end of the session . You would need the following at the next online session:
