Bullying
By Danny Lim
Recently, there has been an increasing number of bullying cases in school. Bullying is defined as an abuse of power by some students towards other students. It can be caused by a variety of reasons such as insecurity, jealousy, or a desire for power. Teachers, parents and students should work together to discuss and find solutions to the bullying issue in school. By addressing these underlying issues, schools can create a safer and more inclusive environment for all students. Through prompt interventions, they can strive to prevent and eliminate bullying in school.
There are some factors of bullying. One of the most common factors is peer influence. Some students are easily persuaded by their peers into doing something without rationalising their actions. There are also students who feel more powerful than other students, especially those who are inferior. They would have the advantage over their introverted personality by getting them to do things for them. For example, those bullies who are lazy doing their schoolwork might ask their timid peers to complete the exercises.
The bullying issue has some effects on the students. Those students who are bullied might feel afraid and unsafe to go to school, as they do not want to be bullied. This will cause them to play truant. They might also feel stressed about catching up with their studies if they are good students who prioritise their academic achievements. On the other hand, the bullies might feel that they have the upper hand if they can bully those introverted students.
Therefore, there are some solutions to the bullying issue. School administrators play a pivotal role by instituting stricter disciplinary measures against bullying behaviors. The teachers should reprimand the students for their misbehaviours and discuss it with their parents. Â Regular meetings with parents can also ensure that there is a consistent approach towards managing behavior and supporting affected students both at school and at home. The school can organise an awareness campaign to make the students aware of their responsibilities and rights to tackle the bullying issue.
In conclusion, bullying is a serious issue that requires the collaboration of teachers, parents, and students to address. By working together, they can create a supportive and inclusive school environment where all students feel safe and respected. It is important for schools to have clear policies on bullying and to take swift actions against the bullies. The teachers should educate the students with a sense of mutual respect while parents should provide them with proper upbringing. This is important to ensure that the students can study in a happy and safe learning environment.
