Community Involvement

Chattanooga Alliance for Research Engagement (CARE)

Members of my lab and I have participated in several recruiting events for CARE, including a booth at the Chattanooga market in October, 2015.

CARE is an organization dedicated to engaging Chattanooga elders in the UTC Psychology Department's research programs. Participants voluntarily provide demographic information to be entered into a secure database. These individuals can then be contacted in the future if they are deemed eligible for participation in a UTC-sponsored research project. This organization is important, as it provides interested older adults the opportunity to contribute to the local and scientific communities, as well as provides researchers an elderly sample to conduct research with.

Lions Club International

I am currently working with Lion's Club officials to establish a student-based chapter here at UTC. The Lion's Club is recognized for service to the community.

"Since Lions Clubs International was founded in 1917, Lions have worked on projects designed to prevent blindness, restore eyesight and improve eye health and eye care for hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Indeed, sight is one of Lions defining causes. Through professional training, healthcare system development and wide spread drug treatment distribution, Lions have gained worldwide recognition for their work to improve sight and prevent blindness."
