Learning intention: outline the steps of DRSABCD during first aid treatment and demonstrate how to perform CPR
I should be able to:
Identify the responsibilities of a person applying first aid and CPR.
follow a sequence of instructions to apply first aid and CPR.
Scenario 1
You and a friend come across an adult male on the beach at Nobby's Beach. The male is showing no signs of life and is on the wet sand. Your friend has no first aid training and wants to run away.
Scenario 2
There is a crowd of people standing around a young boy who is lying awkwardly amongst the rocks at Newcastle Beach. No-one is talking and it appears everyone is waiting for someone else to act. The boy seems to be about 5 years old and is showing no signs of life.
Scenario 3
You are surfing and see an adult floating face down in the water. You approach the person and turn them over and it becomes obvious that the person is not breathing. What are you going to do? There are by-standers in the water and shore if you want to use them (hint this could be your partner right now!).
Scenario 4
You and your friend are on duty at Blackhead Beach and a person runs up to you and says there boyfriend has just collapsed on the beach and is not breathing. You and your friend both have your SRC (Surf Rescue Certificate).
Scenario 5
You are completing a beach run and you see a surfer signalling you from the water, they have a person slumped across their board and appear desperate for help. You are the only one on the beach. How will you react?
Scenario 6
A baby has been pulled from the surf and is showing no signs of life. Use your partner to demonstrate how you would perform CPR on this infant. Remember DRSABCD.
