Dear JES Families,
With the start of the second quarter, learning routines are well established, and our classrooms are buzzing with curiosity, collaboration, and new discoveries!
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to JES PIE for hosting such a wonderful Harvest Fest! This annual event would not have been possible without the incredible volunteers who made it happen and the thoughtful planning from JES PIE. It was really great to see so many members of our school community come together.
Many JES teachers have shared with me how much they appreciated the opportunity to meet with families during our Fall Conferences. These conversations are such an important part of strengthening the partnership between home and school, helping us better support each child’s learning and growth alongside you.
This week, we will hold our October Safety Drill, which will be a Fire Drill. We practice these regularly to ensure all students know how to respond safely and calmly in the event of an emergency.
As we prepare to head into November, we will discuss gratitude and what it means for each cheetah’s sense of belonging within our entire school community. I’d also like to take a moment to highlight gratitude for our teachers. The work they do each day is both incredibly meaningful and deeply challenging. This time of year, I like to remind families that small acts of expressing gratitude, such as a quick email or a handwritten note can go a long way in continuing to inspire our amazing teachers and reinforce the impact they have on our students daily.
Looking ahead, please note:
Early Release: Next week, November 5th
No School for Students: November 24–28th
Thank you for your continued partnership!
With gratitude,
Katie Barea
JES Principal

FROM THE JES KITCHEN
Hello from Holly, John and Julie in the JES Kitchen.
We would like to show you some of the amazing home-made food that comes from our school kitchen.
This week we are talking about the fabulous home-made muffins that Holly creates for the Wednesday Breakfasts. She creates Banana Muffins, Applesauce Muffins and the JES favorite, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins!
All of them are whole wheat based, using King Arthur flour, and have lots of flavor! The pumpkin comes from The Farm Upstream, on Lee River Road, in Jericho.
The Pumpkin Muffin recipe has been made at JES for 30 years, and it is delicious!
FROM THE DISTRICT
MMUUSD Halloween Communication
We value opportunities to celebrate learning and community with our students, and as part of our district’s focus on inclusivity and belonging, MMUUSD recognizes that not every family celebrates Halloween, and not every family celebrates holidays in the same way. Out of respect to our students' cultural, economic, social and religious differences, our schools do not celebrate Halloween, and we ask that staff and students leave costumes and candy at home.
NEWS FROM JES PIE
Partners in Education is an organization whose purpose is to enhance and strengthen the educational and social environment for the Jericho Elementary School students.
Student Directory
This year, PIE is spearheading a Student Directory where caregivers can share their contact information with the school community. This will be a great way to contact other parents in your child's class or other classes in the school. See the link below to fill out the form if you'd like to be included. SIGN UP HERE BY October 31st.
No Fundraiser Fundraiser
PIE used to host multiple fundraisers throughout the year in order to fund our efforts for the school. Last year, we switched it up and just asked for donations instead and it worked! We’re doing the same this year and we need your help! Our goal is $8,500 which comes to around $30 per student.
